Chris & Lexi’s High-Energy Wedding at Park Loft
Some weddings build slowly. Chris and Lexi’s came ready with energy from the very beginning.
With around 130 guests celebrating at Park Loft in Oceanport, NJ, their vision wasn’t for a typical wedding reception. They wanted a night that still brought together friends and family of all ages, but ultimately worked its way toward the kind of high-energy EDM festival and club atmosphere they love.
And with nearly two and a half hours of dancing packed into their four-hour reception, we had plenty of time to take everyone on that journey.
Setting the Tone From the Entrance
The energy started before the dance floor even officially opened.
After introducing Chris and Lexi’s parents, we brought the entire bridal party in together rather than doing individual introductions. That immediately created a crowd around the dance floor and set the stage for Chris and Lexi to make their entrance down Park Loft’s staircase.
Instead of everyone immediately clearing out for formalities, their bridal party stayed involved, rocking out alongside them before we transitioned into Chris and Lexi’s first dance.
It was an early glimpse of what the rest of the night would become: less about going through the motions of a traditional wedding timeline and more about keeping their friends involved in the experience.
Their cake cutting was also done privately, allowing us to handle that moment without interrupting the momentum of the reception later in the evening.
Building a Dance Floor for Every Generation
One of the biggest parts of planning this wedding was knowing where Chris and Lexi wanted the night to end up without trying to get there too quickly.
They had a mixed-age crowd of approximately 130 guests, with a particularly strong group in their mid-20s to mid-30s. Chris and Lexi’s friends were definitely ready for EDM, but dropping straight into festival music wouldn’t have created the same experience.
Instead, we built toward it.
Early in the night, I mixed high-energy remixes of familiar favorites that everyone could recognize while subtly introducing some of the sounds and energy we’d lean into later.
As the dance floor settled in, we worked through different styles, incorporated some Greek music for Chris and his family, and eventually got into some throwback hip-hop from their high school and college years as the night progressed.
All the while, little hints of EDM continued finding their way into the mix.
By the middle of the dancing portion, I began sprinkling in a few more dedicated EDM tracks. At that point, the crowd was warmed up, comfortable with where the music was going, and ready for us to push things further.
Turning the Final Hour Into Their Own EDM Experience
This was the part Chris and Lexi had specifically envisioned during the planning process.
For the final stretch, they wanted to recreate some of the atmosphere they love from EDM festivals and clubs—and they wanted their planned hat toss to be part of that moment.
By then, we didn’t need to convince the dance floor to come along for the ride. We had spent the previous part of the reception getting them there.
The energy shifted, the EDM took over, hats started flying, and Chris and Lexi joined me up on Park Loft’s stage with their friends packed directly in front of them.
That stage is one of my favorite features of the room for exactly this reason. The dance floor sits immediately alongside it, so during those peak moments the couple can get above the crowd and become part of the energy rather than watching it from somewhere else in the room.
For Chris and Lexi, it helped turn the final portion of their wedding into something that felt distinctly theirs.
Lighting and Photo Booth at Park Loft
For production, Chris and Lexi added two moving heads and pixel tubes, which complemented Park Loft’s dance floor especially well once we transitioned into the heavier club and EDM portion of the evening.
Rather than simply lighting the room, the goal was to have the lighting evolve with the music and help visually reinforce those bigger moments as the energy increased.
They also added our Glam Photo Booth, giving guests another experience to jump into throughout the reception without taking anything away from what was happening on the dance floor.
Why Park Loft Works So Well for High-Energy Weddings
Park Loft is always a fun venue to work at, and the team is extremely vendor-friendly.
But from a DJ’s perspective, one of the things I especially like is the relationship between the room, dance floor and stage.
The dance floor is sized in a way that can make even a more intimate wedding feel full and energetic rather than having guests scattered across an oversized space. With around 130 guests at Chris and Lexi’s wedding, once everyone came together, the floor looked and felt packed.
Pair that with the stage immediately beside it, and there’s an opportunity to create some incredible peak-energy moments without separating the couple from their guests.
Chris and Lexi certainly took advantage of it.
From One Family Wedding to the Next
There was also a personal connection that made this wedding especially fun for me: I DJed Chris’s sister’s wedding about a year earlier.
Getting called back for another wedding within the same family is always meaningful, but it also gives me a little extra insight going into the night. I already knew some of the family and had an idea of how they liked to celebrate, while Chris and Lexi still had a completely different musical vision that we could make their own.
And that’s ultimately what this wedding was about.
It wasn’t about making their reception fit a predetermined DJ format. We started with music that could bring a mixed-age crowd together, incorporated Chris’s Greek background, moved through throwbacks, remixes and hip-hop, and strategically built the energy until we could finish exactly where Chris and Lexi wanted to be:
In the middle of their own EDM-festival-inspired dance floor, surrounded by their favorite people.
